The new initiative will see Intel working with SPRING to identify SMEs and providing business and technology guidance.
SINGAPORE: Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will be able to get support in developing products and services in the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and wearable technology segments, under a new initiative.
Intel will work with SPRING to identify such SMEs and provide business and technology guidance, said SPRING in a news release on Monday (Apr 20). Currently, there are nine local startups and tech innovators that are part of the initiative, including ConnectedHealth, gridComm, and Trilogy Technologies.
Members of SPRING's Partnerships for Capability Transformation (PACT) programme, which manages the initiative, will identify projects and business opportunities in healthcare, home energy management and assisted living. The Centre of Innovation for Electronics at Nanyang Polytechnic will provide consultation and engineering support.
The initiative aims to establish an ecosystem of Singapore companies "capable of developing world-class IoT and wearable products and services, based on Intel technology", said SPRING.
"Through this collaboration under the PACT programme, SPRING will work closely with Intel to continue identifying projects and capability development programmes to support candidates in this initiative," said Partnerships for Capability Transformation Director Fung Mok Wing.
Mr Sumner Lemon, Intel Country Manager for Singapore added that given "IoT is a rapidly growing market but faces scalability hurdles", a well-connected ecosystem with common goals needs to be established.
"We believe the Singaporean companies and tech innovators will be able to accelerate the development of products and solutions in the IoT and Wearable segments," he said.
